Day 15, Pizza Month 2011 - Forcella (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)

DAY 15: OCTOBER 15th, 2011

LOCATION: Forcella (485 Lorimer St., Brooklyn)

ORDER: 1 slice of Fritte, 1 slice of Margherita, 1 slice of Materdei, 1 slice of Posillipo, 1 slice of San Gregorio (All individual size pies)

GUEST: Paul Rothman, Lily Rothman, Robin Rothman, Barbie Molnar Williams, Kitzi Taylor

MISCELLANEOUS:
1. This pizza meal marks only the second time my mom has met my fiancee's parents. The first time was a passover seder so, obviously, this one involved a lot more carbs and a lot less gefilte fish.
2. After the pizza the Rothmans and I went to the Royal Flush Festival to see a screening of Nanny Cam, my film short that won Best Picture at New York's 48 Hour Film Project. Here's a snapshot of George Gross (director of Nanny Cam) taking a well deserved bow at the Royal Flush Festival. Click on the image to see the 6 minute (not funny) video short.

DAY 31: OCTOBER 31st, 2008 - NY Pizza Suprema

DAY 31: OCTOBER 31st, 2008

LOCATION: NY Pizza Suprema (8th Ave. and 31st St., NYC)

ORDER: 1 slice plain, 1 upside down slice, half of a fresh mozzarella

GUEST(S): Mark Grenier, Joe Thistle, Natalie Jeffers

PIZZA REVIEW:
Somethings never change, hopefully NY Pizza Suprema is one of them. For over 40 years, this Italian owned pizzeria has been importing high quality ingredients into their refrigerator and exporting them on each and every pie they make. And they make a lot of pies. During lunch, the line of folks trying to get a slice of Suprema stretches almost across the street into Penn Station. It moves quickly thanks to the folks behind the counter. They are a happy staff proud to be maintaining the legacy and recipes of the late Salvatore Riggio. My favorite slice is the plain cheese but I prefer a more savory than sweet tomato sauce.

If you like sweet though, try a slice of the Sicilian "upside down slice" - so named because the sauce is on top of the cheese. The ingredients are also of the highest quality but the thicker crust is much more filling. NY Pizza Suprema may look and charge like an ordinary slice place, but it tastes like your new favorite pizza joint. Stop by and try it, I'll meet you there.

MISC.:
1. Mark Grenier waves to the camera in the video.

2. Joe Thistle and Natalie Jeffers invite me into their apartment and let me wear a track suit for Halloween that I wear while doing the post pizza review.

3. Thus ends Pizza Month 2008. It was delicious!
