A new mom-and-pop slice shop.

Masani Pizza in Forest Hills, Queens is the epitome of a family operation. Imagine walking into a pizzeria where mom is working the counter, dad is tending the oven, and the three kids are folding boxes in the corner. I didn't have to imagine anything, as this is exactly what I witnessed when I entered Masani.

What's more, the name of the pizzeria, "Masani," comes directly from the first names of those three box-folders. Apparently, parents and owners Mike and Alexandra Chau wanted to breathe new life into a neighborhood staple named Lillian that local residents had grown to love for generations. It had since closed and reopened two other times, but without the heart and care that the Chau family provides.

They also bring an impressive understanding of quality New York slices. Wedges and squares made with high-quality ingredients churn out of the gas-powered deck ovens and straight into the mouths and hearts of patrons. Since there isn't a public restroom, I recommend you grab a couple of slices on your way to someplace that does. If I lived nearby, I'd be at Masani all the time.
