Day 3, 2026: Ace's Pizza Spot (Bushwick, Brooklyn)

exterior

DAY 3: OCTOBER 3rd, 2026

LOCATION: Ace's Pizza Spot (423 Troutman St, Brooklyn, NY 11237)

GUEST(S): Robin Rothman, Travis Nilan, Jess Fredston-Hermann

ORDER: 1.5 slices of Buffalo Chicken (Buffalo chicken, blue cheese dressing, red onion, and celery), 1 slice of Hot Burrata (classic cheese, house made chili sauce and basil), 1 slice of Pepperoni, 1 slice of Vodka Meatball (Vodka sauce, pork & beef meatballs, ricotta)

REVIEW:
There's another Ace's up Brooklyn's sleeve! Situated in Bushwick, mere minutes from the Jefferson Street L train stop, this location boasts more space, more seating, and a larger beer selection while serving the same Slicey Award-winning Detroit-style pizza as the original Williamsburg location. Expect the same nostalgic 80s and 90s aesthetic in both decor and playlist, but the true main event remains unchanged: thick, rectangular slices crowned with rich tomato sauce and encased in a crispy, caramelized "frico" cheese crust.

Bring friends so you can order big. Start with a classic Medium Pepperoni Pie, then round it out with one of their creative signature options like the Hot Burrata or Buffalo Chicken—both are phenomenal. Open for less than a year, the Bushwick outpost is rapidly mastering its new ovens and workflow. Take advantage of getting a table without a wait while you still can, because word is getting out fast!

MISCELLANEOUS:

Robin Rothman, Sean Taylor, Jess Fredston-Hermann, Travis Nilan

1. Travis Nilan is an amazing guitarist, composer, singer and songwriter.  He helped teach Robin how to play guitar, co-wrote a musical called the Algorhythms, and is currently working on a new musical project that is "out of this world."

2. Jess Fredston-Hermann and Travis were on their way to a get-together for people that attended this year's Burning Man festival.  They have attended it many times before and have inspired me to one day take part in the desert festivities.

Volunteering with NYJL

3. Robin Rothman and I spent the morning volunteering for the New York Junior League as part of the Dartmouth Club of New York contingent weeding, raking, and painting Dewitt-Clinton Park in Hell's Kitchen. I'd love to say we encountered zero dead rats and dead mice but then I'd be lying by five.
